Brief introduction to Wilcox County - Located in the SW1/4 of the State of Alabama, (883 sq miles), is traversed by over 500 miles of Alabama River shoreline. It is located 75 miles SW of the State Capitol, Montgomery; 135 miles S of Birmingham; 135 miles N from the Gulf Beaches and 145 miles NE of Mobile.

Established in 1819, one day after Alabama became a state, Wilcox County offers several other historic towns (Oak Hill, Pine Apple and Pine Hill) and a wide variety of recreation.  Camden, the county seat, was established in 1842.  Having a very active Historical Society, we host more antebellum homes than any county in the state except Mobile.

Lake Dannelly, 105 miles long created by the hydroelectric dam at Millers Ferry, has a shoreline of over 500 miles with numerous public boat ramps and parks maintained by the Corp of Engineers.  Today, the Corps of Engineers maintains a 9' feep channel from Montgomery south to Mobile on the Gulf of Mexico.
